For parents like Mr. and Mrs. Kul (name changed), New Leaf Foundation is more than just a centre—it’s a lifeline. And for children like Priyanka (name changed), it’s a second home. New Leaf offers a warm, nurturing, and stimulating environment where children with special needs can build essential life skills, connect with peers, and engage with the world around them.
What began as a humble music class for children with special needs has blossomed into a dynamic centre focused on holistic development. Today, New Leaf offers a wide range of activities designed to support the physical, emotional, and creative growth of children with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
To create an inclusive, supportive, and joyful environment for children with special needs—including those with mental, intellectual, and physical challenges—where they can develop essential life skills through vocational training, artistic expression, sports, community interaction, and exposure to diverse experiences.
To empower children with special needs to confidently navigate physical, emotional, and social challenges, and to promote their meaningful integration into society as independent, capable individuals through positive social engagement and inclusion.

Priyanka, a young woman with Down syndrome, joined the school in 2013 at the age of 22. Her early life had been marked by emotional distress and instability, making it difficult for her to adapt to school or hostel settings. As her parents aged and faced financial limitations, they were no longer able to give her the support and care she needed.
When Priyanka first arrived at school, she was withdrawn, underweight, and emotionally shut down. Enrolled in limited day care support, she showed little interest in engaging with others or participating in activities. But everything began to change when she met Kalika teacher — a pivotal moment that marked the beginning of her transformation.
Priyanka became the very first student of New Leaf, a new initiative launched by the foundation. In this nurturing and inclusive environment, she slowly began to blossom. She discovered the joy of playing the Djembe, expressed herself through dance, started taking part in group conversations, and began enjoying outings and daily routines.
Today, Priyanka is a different person — lively, expressive, and full of confidence. Her journey from isolation to belonging is a powerful testament to the mission of New Leaf: to empower individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities through compassion, creativity, and community.
