Music

The roots of New Leaf trace back to a music band formed in 2017, featuring a group of talented children from the Prism Foundation. Over time, the band gained recognition and began performing at paid events across Maharashtra, including venues such as hotels, auditoriums, tourist spots, and hill stations. A significant highlight was their international collaboration with the Lavelle School for the Blind in New York, where students participated in a virtual djembe performance via Zoom—an important step in expanding global connections and embracing virtual platforms.

Since the inception of the New Leaf Foundation, music has remained a core element, valued as one of the most innate and expressive forms of communication. Students at New Leaf not only enjoy listening to music but many also actively participate by playing instruments like the djembe, drums, keyboard, and various percussion instruments. Educators recognize music’s therapeutic benefits, particularly in enhancing emotional well-being, focus, and concentration.

However, not all students naturally gravitate toward music. For those with more profound cognitive or intellectual challenges, grasping rhythm and musical concepts can be especially difficult. As a result, while occasional stage performances are organized to build students’ confidence and comfort in public settings, regular professional-level band performances remain limited.
